Victim of Drive-By Linking By Sharpshooter Brandon Hopkins…
Posted by ShaunzoYup, Brandon’s done it to me too. Both my sites (I don’t think he knows all of the rest yet).
His idea (if it was his) is a bit similar to mine - my first wave when I visit a blog. I’ll leave a comment (only on a (even tenuously) related subject) and basically signal “I’m open to discussion”. And as I mentioned, I do let people do this to me.
If my comment is accepted, next I’ll go for a link on the strongest page I can find on the site, then quickly find another page with a topic I’m interested in and join in the convo. If the convo wanes, I’ll leave, probably to come back another day when I’m checking links to my site.
You see, on a lot of blog set-ups, once you’ve been approved by the blog owner on your first comment, you’re free to comment comment comment (or spam spam spam if you’re that way inclined).
It’s not all take take take though. When I visit a blog and get a bit of linky love, I’ll probably stumble or digg or delicious or fav that page, just for a bit of payback for the generous link giver (unless they are an evil Nofollower ![]()
I can only hope others are as kind to me ![]()

Truly effective. The biggest benefit I’ve seen is once you start a relationship, people begin linking to your deep pages because everyone can find at least one thing that interests them.

Totally agree Brandon. I hope you’re over the shock of losing Jim’s competition
I’ll drop by your blog later - today I have a nightmare to sort out!

“over the shock” That will never happen. I did ask them to donate my wall clock to charity though.

I’m far too selfish for that! I’m thinking of auctioning off a ninja star, though - interested?

Auction something you got for free? Reminds me of when Michael Scott (from The Office) wants to SELL part of their Christmas tree to charity
